When a CWP is not in your budget:

(An example on a $20K wedding... keep your calculators handy!)

The discounts are obvious, but in addition to that, a Certified Planner guides the couple, directs the planning process, handles the contracts and the vendor relationships. A Certified Planner is present at your rehearsal, vendor meetings, and always available via email to answer any questions that may arise. A Certified Planner is at your wedding to ensure that all of the vendors are on time and all equipment is performing properly. When there is a complication, such as a torn bustle or a wrong song played during the ceremony, it is your planner who will correct it. Your planner will send out monthly checklists and ensure that a decision is never made without your approval.

How do I offer such significant discounts? When working with a Certified Planner, other vendors gratefully offer a discount so they can do their job and not have to direct the wedding. Many photographers, for example, often have to cue the wedding party during the ceremony and ensure that the time line is followed. Not only is this not in their job description, it is taking away the time that they should be focusing on their art and photographing the day. A Certified Wedding Planner negotiates pricing for her clients and ensures that all vendors are performing their task to the best of their ability.

Additionally, I work with many local professionals who are independent business owners and not part of a corporation. By keeping my network small and close-knit, I am able to ensure that my vendors offer a consistent, high-level of service. I know that when I call one of my photographers, it will be that photographer, not an assistant, or someone whom I am meeting for the first time. My DJ is exactly the same dedicated businessman whom I have hired for that event. A Certified Wedding Planner eliminates the surprises that you may encounter when working with larger businesses.

A Certified Wedding Planner saves you valuable time and money and is a constant reassurance throughout your planning process. A Certified Wedding Planner is absolutely in your budget.

My friend needs to hire X. Can you tell her whom to call?

A good estimate for vendors is $1,000 each. Of course, there is leeway and room for some negotiations. Having a wedding during a peek season and on a Saturday will demand a higher price from the vendors. If she is on a strict budget, a Friday or a Sunday wedding will be significantly more affordable.

If she is interested, I offer all couples a one-hour complementary consultation. It's a chance to pick my brain and to see if they are interested in the work of a wedding planner. This could be an in-person meeting at a central location, or over the phone. Either way, it's free and there is no obligation to hire me further.

Unfortunately, part of being a wedding planner also means keeping my vendor list private, and to paid customers. I have several packages to choose from, with limited vendor referrals to my preferred network. Within that network, are vendors that are trusted, well-rated, held to my standards, and offer my clients significant discounts over the average bride. It is through these services that the bride saves so much money by hiring a wedding planner.

During the consultation, I could tell her the best ways to find a vendor, but not give her my preferred list and discount without being a client. Because I am paid directly from the brides, I also pass all savings onto my brides, and do not take any commission from my vendors. While I am happy to provide vendor referrals, I usually do so for either a nominal fee, or at the very least, a favorable review on my Wedding Wire site.

I am happy to answer any questions she may have, and would love to meet with her, and hopefully help her to secure her vendors at a reasonable rate. Please direct her to my website for more information.

Sincerely,
-Meagan Vanover

Do I really need a wedding planner?

YES!!! Every Bride-to-Be needs, and deserves, a wedding planner. The consultants experience, combined with relationships with other local vendors will save the bride valuable time and money. Weddings can be stressful and expensive. Consultants can work together with preferred vendors to create the best event at a lower price point than the general public can. I can assure you that the savings provided by my services will be far greater than my fees.

I truly and honestly wish that I had a consultant when I was planning my own wedding. Wedding planning can be very stressful, especially while trying to also juggle your career, finances, a home, and perhaps children. My fiance and I often threatened to call it off and just elope. We didn't, but I can certainly help you to avoid those same feelings.

What does a Wedding Planner (also referred to as a Coordinator or Consultant) do?
Basically, I organize your wedding for you. I negotiate deals with vendors (usually 10-30% below market) deal with any concerns or complications, and help develop your time-line and budget. I also do Day of Coordination (DOC) which includes organizing the rehearsal, being the "go-to" contact for your vendors (so that they don't bug you) and doing all of the little extra stuff that your Maid-of-Honor would otherwise do, so that she (and you) can just enjoy the party. If you want to look at the "Weddings" tab on my website, it lists some typical packages.
